How Does Total Ankle Replacement Surgery Work?

• They have tried other methods of treatment with little or no results.
• They weigh less than 250 lbs, as heavier weights can put too much pressure on the artificial joint.
• They’re not very physically active. People such as athletes or those who have physically demanding jobs are typically not good candidates.
• They have no deformities of the ankle or hindfoot.
• There is no ongoing or history of infection.

These criteria are generalized, so if you do not meet them, it doesn’t necessarily mean that surgery is not an option for you.
